Mineserver.be seems to have a spambot problem right now, but why is nobody actively fighting it?
(with actively I mean anti-spam addons for smf. Most of them are SMF 2 though, which is what I use.)

Find a mod that connects to stopforumspam.com and use that too.

Make an API key if you need to, it's worth it in the long run.

ok, I installed that too. It seems you dont even need the API key if you're not submitting the spammer info to the site =)

SMF itself is plagued with spam issues.

Also reCaptcha isn't the most secure method, trying adding a stupid question like "Do you like peanut butter?" to the registration, 90% of spam bots will fail registration then Smiley

If you are gonna switch forum script in the future I suggest http://xenforo.com/, it got some really great features.

But i don't think it's as good as $140 Wink
I know it's used at bukkit.org, but infact it did not feel much different from any other forum software. In my opinion it's just a standard forum packed in some flashy look.

Well the $140 is hard to justify. For me it is the easiest forum to stay on top of what is happening, most others you have to rely on email notification, where I feel a mail list would be easier Tongue

I normally use Joomla with Kunena (forum extension), but I have had sites with SMF, phpBB, vB, IPP...

Maybe Joomla, with Kunena and http://www.projectfork.net/ is something for the Mineserver devs.

lol.

Why are'nt we adding a question like "Do you like peanut butter?" like Carve suggested? It would be the easiest thing and would cost $ 0...
The question could be modified, like "What is the best Minecraft Server Software?" - if any spam bot would beat this question, the bot should be kept in the forum because it is giving right answers.  Cheesy
